Ok, maybe this is not 'news news', but it's still fairly recent. Some info about 'Copper' below (from 2 sites):

Quote :

TorontoFilm.Net reports that producers Thump Inc. and Canadian indie studio/distributor, E1 Entertainment, started production July 14 in Toronto on the new TV police drama Copper, and will continue shooting in and around the GTA through to November 2009.

The one-hour, 13-episode series, commissioned by Canwest and picked up by the ABC Television Network during development, will be simulcast on Global and ABC.

"...'Copper' is a workplace drama about five young rookie cops just out of the police academy. They have bonded together, fought together, drank together, worked together and slept together. Now they're on the job together.

They're kids with guns, experiencing firsthand the hardest kind of policing there is. They are first responders, and they are about to learn that no amount of training prepares you for life..."

"The entire Copper team have crafted an exciting, innovative new twist on the traditional cop franchise," said Noreen Halpern, President, Dramatic Programming, E1 Entertainment.

"This project is unusual. While it was originally developed with Canwest, ABC has been actively involved, early on, since the pitching stage. The result has been a series with a truly international sensibility."

Vancouver-born actress Missy "Reaper" Peregrym stars as 'Andy McNally', "...a young woman who has grown up fast and carries a gun, but feels like a fraud half the time. She comes from a police family and all she's ever wanted to beis a cop. A born rescuer, Andy is the soul of the close-knit group of five rookie officers plunged into the high stakes world of big city policing - a world where even the smallest mistake can have life-or-death consequences..."

Co-starring is Canadian actor Gregory "Everwood" Smith, whose character, 'Dov Epstein', is the thrill-seeker in the group, thoroughly 'jacked' to be a cop.

Enuka "24" Okuma plays 'Traci Nash', a girl from a working class family raised in a tough neighbourhood, a serious party girl and a single mother.

Travis "My Green House" Milne is 'Chris Diaz', a clean-cut officer with a wicked temper.

Charlotte "M.V.P." Sullivan is 'Gail Peck', the group's politico, whose mother is a superintendent next in line to be Chief of Police...

Stay Tuned...

Quote :
Canada's Canwest Broadcasting has announced the start of production on Copper, a one-hour, 13-episode police series that will be simulcast on Global and ABC Television later this season.

Copper is described as "a workplace drama about five young rookie cops just out of the police academy". The series has an all-Canadian cast that includes Vancouver's Missy Peregrym (Reaper, Heroes) and Gregory Smith (Everwood). Peregrym's character, Andy McNally, is described as "the soul of the close-knit group of five rookie officers". Smith will play another cop, Dov Epstein. Epstein is the "thrill-seeker" among the cops and aspires to emulate his heroes, Starsky & Hutch

Among the other members of the cast of Copper are Enuka Okuma (24), Travis Milne (My Green House), Charlotte Sullivan (M.V.P.), Ben Bass (Would Be Kings), Eric Johnson (Smallville), Matt Gordon (Rent-A-Goalie), Noam Jenkins (Flashpoint), Melanie Nicholls King (Law & Order: Special Victims Unit) and Aidan Devine (M.V.P.)."From cast to crew, the pedigree of talent involved in this original series is simply incredible," said Christine Shipton, Senior Vice President of Drama and Factual Content, Global Television. "We're so excited to be joining forces with Thump Inc., E1 Entertainment and ABC Television Network on Copper, and bringing these amazing scripts to screen. It's a creative, smart and sexy police drama sure to resonate with audiences on both sides of the border."

Copper was co-created by Tassie Cameron (Flashpoint), Ellen Vanstone (At the Hotel) and Morwyn Brebner (Hotel Metropolitan). The team of executive producers includes Ilana Frank (Would be Kings), Noreen Halpern (Hung) and John Morayniss (Hung). The episodes will be directed by David Wellington (Queer as Folk, The Eleventh Hour), John Fawcett (Da Vinci's Inquest), Charles Biname (Hunt for Justice) and Alex Chapple (Law and Order).

"Tassie, Ilana and the entire Copper team have crafted an exciting, innovative new twist on the traditional cop franchise," said Noreen Halpern, President of Dramatic Programming, E1 Entertainment. "This project is unusual. While it was originally developed with Canwest, ABC has been actively involved, early on, since the pitching stage. The result has been a series with a truly international sensibility and E1 couldn't be more excited about what this augurs for the future of international co-productions."

E1 Entertainment, an independent studio and distributor, is co-producing Copper with Thump Inc. (The Life Before This). The series is shooting in Toronto and Copper is currently the working title.

Yeh, me too. I wonder what they'll bring that's different from other similar show (besides Missy, of course)

When I find a preliminary airing date, I'll let you know. So far all I've got is 2010, but I have no idea when. I don't know exactly how much time goes into post-production, but shoothing should conclude before the end of the year, so perhaps the first of 13 one-hour episodes will air this spring?.

Anyway, this is what E1 says about Copper here:

Quote :
Serve. Protect. Don’t screw up.
At the police academy they trained, fought, drank and slept together. Now they’re on the job together.
Dangerous pursuits. Fierce shootouts. Deadly standoffs. They’re ready to brave anything on the job;
it’s only their personal lives that could use the back-up.

I've never even heard of it before. Then again, we're always one of the last countries to get things.

Well, it doesn't surprise me you haven't heard of it. The first season hasn't even aired anywhere yet Razz And once it does, it's still wait and see if other countries pick it up.

I've got reports of the first episode airing April 2010, but nothing confirmed yet. Still no trailer either. I'm really hoping that date of Spring 2010 will hold. But we'll see, there's still time

Thanks for the update! I'm hoping we'll find some pictures of Missy at this festival.

I wonder when Copper will actually show on ABC. I'm guessing cos of this article, IMDB has changed the release date from April 1 to simply 2010.

That seems possible. If they won't start this spring, they most likely won't until the August/early Sept. period. I hope they will at least start it then, I can't wait much longer Razz

Yeh, I guess so. "Copper" is a bit too simple a title, probably. Plus it made google alert send me many emails about copper investments Razz

It's finally here! ABC has announced their summer schedule. They're trying something that doesn't happen often for summer prime-time television in that they're airing new shows.

"Rookie Blue" debuts June 24th

Awesome! I did hear they were gonna launch shows this summer, but I hadn't seen an actual date yet. June 24th is still somewhat far away, but at least we've got a date!

Check out abc's site of Rookie Blue including a new trailer: http://abc.go.com/shows/rookie-blue

The trailer shows Missy like 70% of the time, so I'm guessing she'll get the most screen time. Which I like

The series will premiere June 24th. Not long to go now!
